We will be starting yet another wave of schools testing towards the end of March. What will be making testing unique this time around is our partnership with the Hammerheads Triathlon Club. This means the incorporation of running components in the form of basic agility ladders and plyometrics, on top of our existing TT test on the CompuTrainers.

This means we have lots to get done within the time frame we’re working with at each school. Coach Deanne from the Hammerheads, along with myself, will be at each school running the program, but we can’t do it alone! We’ll be needing assistance from you to help run activities, set up and take down equipment, record results, and get the students excited about cycling and triathlon!

We intend conducting the program at 30 Schools during Spring and another 20 in the Fall, the following is a list of schools that are currently booked for sessions:

Wednesday, March 21st – Glendale Secondary School

Monday, March 26th – Yorkview Elementary School

Tuesday, March 27th – Bellmoore Public School

Wednesday, March 28th – Crestwood Secondary School

Friday, March 30th – Green Acres Public School

Monday, April 2nd – W.H. Ballard Public School

Tuesday, April 3rd – Balaclava Public School (1st Visit)

Wednesday, April 4th – Hill Park Secondary School

Thursday, April 5th – Balaclava Public School (2nd Visit)

Wednesday, April 11th – Mount Albion School

Thursday, April 19th – Lawfield School (1st Visit)

Monday, April 23rd – Lawfield School (2nd Visit)

Thursday, April 25th – Mountainview View School

This is a great opportunity for you to get more involved in the program and your community, while you earn volunteer hours. We also need the services of a driver with access to a vehicle with a tow hitch, that can deliver and pick up the trailer from each School, there is a payment of $50 plus Fuel allowance for each School. If you are interested in helping out, please contact me at chris.gray@ncch.ca, or on my cell at 289.776.5969. I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Hello all,

With the growing demand for the use of the computrainers and the soon-to-be addition of a new computrainer lab, we will be expanding two fold. The first in this expansion will be additional days and times available. Kevin will continue to host the regularly scheduled Wed/Sat sessions. Jan and Scott will now be hosting some early morning and afternoon sessions to further cater to those early birds and shift workers who cannot make the regular wed/sat schedule. Please continue to check the BOOK SESSION link on the web page for the calendar of computrainer dates and times. We look forward to riding with you.

Just a reminder. When you are ordering clothing from the online store. Please make sure that you open each individual item that you wish to purchase and select a size and quantity before adding to the shopping cart. It is a little deceptive in that it allows you to add to the cart in the kit menu without opening the item and selecting a size. This means your order is placed without any sizes. We are trying to get rid of that add to cart button but there seems to be a bug with the software. So, please, just be aware that you must open each item and select a size prior to pressing add to cart.

Thank you for your assistance and understanding.

Milton council supports velodrome

Great news from the Town of Milton meeting last night, we will be getting a Velodrome in our Region, construction is due to commence in June 2012!!!!

Town council confirmed their commitment to the Pan Am Game’s velodrome Monday as councillors pointed a long list of benefits that can come from the indoor cycling track.

Council voted 9 -2 in support of becoming the facility’s host municipality. However, minor adjustments to the agreements with Infrastructure Ontario and the Pan Am Toronto Organizing Committee and site plan approvals will have to be hammered out before the council signs a binding agreement.

Overwhelming, councillors voiced their support for the project and confidence that the $40 million facility will come in on time and on budget.

“People have said other municipalities have looked at it and said no, what do we know that they don’t know. The difference is Milton delivers,” said Councillor Mike Cluett. “That’s a message we have to send to every other municipality. When we set our minds to something, we don’t need 18 months, we can do it in two months.”

An in depth business plan and staff report, along with consultations with the GTA cycling community and online public survey were undertaken during a whirlwind couple of months.

If all memorandums of understanding are passed by council, construction is scheduled to begin in June.

Without a firm commitment from the Province to fund a Laurier university campus at the Milton Education Village, Town staff is budgeting in case Laurier’s $2.5 million pledge to the velodrome doesn’t come through.

The Town’s total capital contribution to the project is pegged between $3.45 million to $6.25 million. The annual operating budget is estimated between $220,000 to $330,000, some of which will be offset through the Game’s Legacy Fund.

How much money the Town will receive from the fund is still unclear, but part of the staff recommendation included having a Town representative on the Legacy Fund Corporation.

Councillor Rick Malboeuf and Greg Nelson were the only two to vote against further pursuing the Pan Am velodrome.

The website forums were previously removed as they were not being used. However, a single forum has been returned to the site under the STORE menu header on the top right side of the website. This new forum is a Gear Buy & Sell area. Other cycling clubs and organizations run a Buy & Sell. It seems to be a very successful way to acquire gear for a decent price and to sell to an appreciative audience. Given that NCCH is a development centre that caters to youth riders and youth tend to outgrow gear and equipment, the thought is that this may be a very active area for those starting out and looking for quality gear at a good price and for those looking to sell and upgrade.

You can also find the Buy & Sell here: http://ncch.ca/gear-buy-sell/

*Please be aware that this area is being provided as a communication service only, NCCH does not warrant or guarantee any equipment listed in the Gear Buy & Sell area. NCCH will not be responsible for any transactions that occur as a result of this communications tool. As with any internet communications tool, please be careful any time you arrange a meeting to exchange goods and funds and be advised that you do so at your own risk.
